Polruan is
across the river from Fowey, a passenger
ferry runs from one side of the river to the other.
Like Fowey the back streets of Polruan are a joy to
walk around with some incredible houses
and buildings which are only found in
Cornwall. Having spent so little
time here, I wish I had some more
pictures, but
it's on the list of places that
Desiree and I will visit again.

This is called the blockhouse and is comparatively well
preserved due to the efforts of various enthusiastic
Councillors and Conservationists on the Polruan side
of the river. There were two (the Fowey blockhouse
being beyond preservation ) both were built at the end of the 14th
century to protect the harbour from pirates and the
French ( Not much different today then !
) A chain was pulled up across the river
between the two blockhouses to stop vessels entering
the harbour and conversely, to stop them leaving if
they had the temerity to "cross the line".
